Who We Are

Cahaba Valley Church is a community of seekers.

We are parents, grandparents, children, and grandchildren. We are married, divorced, and single.

We are retired, students, businesspeople, artists, educators, doctors, and unemployed.

We are just scraping by, and we are wealthy.  We are black, white, and colors in between.

We are Democrats, Republicans and Independents.  We are healthy and we are sick.

We are hopeful and disheartened. We are new Christians, learning-to-be Christians and lifelong Christians.

We are pilgrims rather than pundits.  We don't have all of the answers, but we'd love to journey with you in your spiritual quest.

Cahaba Valley Church was born in 1973 as Cahaba Valley Church of Christ.  Touched by a profound sense of God's grace, the founders were committed to celebrating the Good News of salvation by the grace of God and Lordship of Jesus Christ.

Today, God's grace still sets free from fear. free to break down the walls between us.

We believe we are called to be peacemakers in the world, welcoming relationships with people in service to Jesus. And we believe Jesus seeks to bring all people together with him in relationships of faith and love.

Our congregation is small but connects to many believers throughout Birmingham area and beyond.  We are constantly learning how God works in surprising ways to create relationships between people who would probably never expect to know each other.  In fact, that's one of the ways we have seen God at work across the whole world and why we talk about our congregational being an ecumenical church.

Our church also accepts women as fellow servants in every aspect of our worship and ministry. For an in-depth statement of the study that led us to this belief, please read our commentary on the role of women.

We also studied and prayed together to create a congregational Statement of Faith, which we adopted in 1985..
